Our process
Successful web and mobile initiatives don’t happen by accident — they require careful planning to ensure that what starts off as a great idea doesn’t become a technological disaster.
Blackcatalyst believes in taking a top-down approach to project management and working from the broader issues down to the narrower ones. We use a three-step development process:
CORE DEVELOPMENT.
What is the product? How will it be delivered? What does it do? Who are its consumers? These are important questions, but projects often begin before they’ve been fully answered. We offer a schedule and finalized bid only after the functional goals of the project have been clearly defined and agreed upon.
This phase is also about answering these questions by developing the necessary strategies — a business strategy, a creative strategy, a technological strategy — to do so. Having established a strategic direction, we build a detailed sketch of the user experience. Flowcharts and page mockups show the overall content architecture, how the information will unfold to the user, and how the user can move through it.
DESIGN.
Only once this structural framework is in place do we manipulate the visual elements: illustration, typography, screen layout, motion, and so forth. We often create an interactive design prototype with real content that simulates the look & feel and interactivity of the final product.
INTEGRATION.
After design approval, we build out the rest of the product, implementing all the content and features and performing thorough testing.
Blackcatalyst works with its clients on a per-project or retainer basis. We can also work with your internal marketing, design, or engineering staff to make use of existing resources and coordinate effective launch objectives.
UX Research
We bring together research, human factors, and the latest UX design patterns to concieve outstanding interactive experiences and prototypes that get dramatic results.
